The Right Side of History

A collection of writings that attempt to connect the meaning of the major and minor events and distractions of today to a broader philosophy of life that tries to strip away the non-sense, spin and lies to reveal something that is closer to truth.

We need to realize that we are all prisoners and the prison guards are ourselves. I am trying as hard as I can to divorce myself from my ego and this materialistic nightmare we have created and in the process awaken my spiritual self.

Comments on the New York Post

June 15, 2004

This article appeared in the New York Post today and I think if you had any doubt about the way things are going it should persuade you to wake up.

Just look at this thing and actually see what is beyond the surface:

1) "Leggy" Good Morning America host Diane Sawyer used to be considered somewhat of a serious journalist. But in the last 10 years, a period a century from now will be referred to as "The Great Consolidation," she has become a total clown in the media circus.

2) Dodge ball, a game I remember as a kid, is now popular with adults. In fact the article states that it is a "craze." I, of course, do not know ANYBODY who actually takes part in this phenomenon that is sweeping the nation.

3) There is a movie being released this week called Dodge Ball whose content matter directly involves the subject being explored on this segment of this semi-news show. I wonder if someone would be interested in seeing a film that is a comedic look at the new American Pastime after viewing a "news piece" that legitimizing the claims that dodge ball is very popular.

4) The movie Dodge Ball is distributed by 20th Century Fox, which is a subsidiary of News Corporation, which of course is owned by Rupert Murdoch who, coincidentally, owns the New York Post. Needless to say the benefit of having one branch of your mind control empire legitimize and advertise another part of your domain is incalculable. In other words, one opens a newspaper expecting to read articles that are true, well crafted and informative and instead you get a cheap and sleazy advertisement cloaked in the guise of news and information.

Okay so what's the problem with a guy trying to make a buck by any means necessary? Cross promotion is nothing new and could be easily corrected. All we have to do is bring back some regulations that would limit individuals or corporations from owning and controlling a certain number of TV stations and/or newspapers and/or radio stations. Checks and balances are a good thing.

But the problem this article presents is a tad more troubling. Although Rupert Murdoch owns both the New York Post and 20th Century Fox the original report appeared on ABC. They are run by Disney. Why would Disney, one of Fox's competitors, run a total fluff piece that's sole purpose is to promote and sell another company's soap? It would be like Coca-Cola announcing the results of the "Pepsi Taste Test." The bottom line is these two pigs (ABC/Disney and Fox/Murdoch) are at the same trough and as far as I can see the bacon that would come from them would make the supermarket brand look lean.

Again you're saying to your self, what's the big deal? So what they're rich, what are you jealous? I couldn't care less about how much money they have but the very thing that made this gallery of grotesques so rich is being used to keep people ignorant and stifled. These media empires have made it possible for a population who professes their love of freedom and democracy turn into a society that actively advocates imperialism. I know the U.S. government and population has not always done things that were in congruence with our principles and ideals. But being a hypocrite is, in my opinion, a common problem when you are aiming high.

What this administration is doing, with the help or the silent nod of the centralized corporate media, is trying to convince people that we should forget about trying to create a better world and embrace cruelty, control and domination. We went from the goal of Woodrow Wilson's 14 Points ("All peoples of the world have the right of self determination.") to the George W Bush Doctrine ("You better not touch MY oil!") I know this article seems inconsequential compared to the importance of War and Peace but the techniques used in both are the same.

Also I know telling you to just stop watching TV or reading newspapers is the equivalent of the failed Nancy Regan Just Say No anti drug campaign of the mid 1980s. Or telling people looking for birth control devices about abstinence. The advice in both cases is quite sound but wholly impractical. All I'm asking is the next time you see a real news story, specifically about our government; please don't just take anything at face value. Look up some information independently. Do a little research before drawing a conclusion. If there is a dissenting opinion being presented then knocked, laughed at, ridiculed and dismissed as ridiculous please listen to the REASONS the ridiculer gives. Are there any facts to back up his statements or is he just saying the journalistic version of "Ahh come on."

This is your country.

Do not let anyone tell you what to think.
God Bless America
